be crazy if like in his own mind like you're always his deadbeat magician brother he's like oh my poor dead magician brother out there struggling in the streets of Texas just I think I'm going to send him a 50 spot yep that's what it is I'm his younger brother and I'm like uh you know he's a year older than me and I'm his only brother and uh it's cuz yeah I'm I'm the I 13 years ago was very much the starving artist right right even up up until like a few you know five years ago so aren't you aren't you married and have like a kid and stuff no kids no kids yeah I've been married for a long time successful Trel show so fun and he's just like he's like better send it 50 bucks I better send it 50 bucks it could be over in a day for him it could be it could be one bad week and it's just 100% penny pinching eating Ramen well he's like where'd you sleep last night I'm like Oh my buddy's couch and he's like dude oh so you're working it you're like d you're trying to get that 50 question I was just chilling with my buddy Mike that's so funny though his perception of it like oh my God my brother can't even get a hotel no I got [ __ ] up till 300 in the morning and I went to sleep on a couch because I'm not gonna what am I gonna do God damn it Wes playing with cards and [ __ ] around just you know your wife's going to leave you I'm going to give you 50 bucks that's going to fix everything and also like 50 bucks is sending someone 50 bucks now you want you want me to get eggs like what is this you know what I mean he can barely buy groceries for 50 bucks right now get a [ __ ] on six what do you want me to do that's like I don't know the last time somebody kicked you gas money but it's funny cuz my friends will kick me gas money like it's 2002 and they're like dude dude I got you on gas dude here's 10 you're like and I'm like thank you oh my goodness dude this won't even buy this won't even buy me a Gatorade in my [ __ ] gas station right now God hey we're doing it Wes cheers buddy thank you for coming by dude pleasure I feel like you've been in here a couple times now right and you've been on other people's pods and I'm like what the [ __ ] when do I get I want my [ __ ] West time brother let's go dud it's good to see you um for people that don't know uh who you are just yet uh we're about to let them [ __ ] know brother appr West Barker uh traveling musician Com or uh magician magician sorry uh magician uh comedian uh performer you do it all dude you blend the two things you're blending the two things right now right I I'm yeah that's my whole thing is really blend the comedy and the magic and I've worked them both very hard for a very long time so I try to make it good you know because there's a lot of Comedy magic out there people is people like I'm a comedy magician I'm like I think you're just a magician that has a couple jokes and there's a big difference there's a big gap between what I think of a comedy magician and what someone will put on their website because there's like a lot of uh uh buil-in gags that magic provides you right so like these guys go I'm a comedy magician I'm like I don't think you understand like you're basically Carrot Top You Know You're just showing a funny prop because magic has a lot of inherently funny props but like I like to actually get in there and like tell a stories write a [ __ ] joke yeah about my life and try and get some laughs well cuz people I feel like you're anytime this is what I learned from doing standup coming from music was like when you're going up to do music the stage already kind of set for you figuratively and and literally where it's like people are there to be like they they're stoked on to see you right but then when you go and do comedy it's kind of like the second that you get up there they're like you know yay and then and then it gets quiet and it's prove yourself to me right now prove yourself that's what standup is prove to me that you're not a cornball you know or you're not an prove to me that you're likable and then maybe I'll laugh at your [ __ ] right it's like this slow cording game you kind of sometimes have to play with the crowd right and that's what I'm learning you know I've only been doing it for like year year and a half um but uh so I'm I'm getting through it but I would assume that that is even more prevalent if you're getting up there and you're like hey guys I'm a magician I do you open with I'm a magician like I don't want it not to give away your act or anything no no it's fine it uh I mean if I'm just doing a spot on somebody else's show I will normally tell them not to say that I'm magician okay smart um that way it's a pleasant surprise cuz I will start the first minute I'm up there you won't I won't even talk about it okay and then I'll sort of drop it in a very funny way nice uh because I I'll start by explaining I hate kids and then I'll tell them why cuz if you're a magician you [ __ ] hate kids for sure right and magicians and clowns right yeah it's like God damn more kids [ __ ] you so uh yeah then I'll get into it but like sometimes if if uh some places just can't help it like I have some pretty sweet uh credits and they just love you know some shows just want to Hype it up and I get that too so when they do that's fine but some days I'm I really just want to work on like a story and I'm like dude please don't say magic because if you say magic I have to do a trick right I'm like and I really only have 5 minutes tonight and I need to [ __ ] work on this like I already know the trick works I need to make this joke solid you're like Don't Make Me Dance right now exactly dance Wes and then but you know like sometimes when you go on some people certain shows you're like okay I'm only here because I'm the magic guy I'm the magic guy and I'm like I get it you know so like when people put me on a show like that I'm like [ __ ] yeah let's do all the tricks in the world here we go I'll I'll do it all so so we'll get back to your show and stuff in a second but I I am I'm curious very curious about kind of the Journey of the M the the magician because uh to me it seems like like when you start a metal band right which is what I where I'm from you start a metal band and people are like generally they're like sick like you're like hey come to my first show we've been practicing we got a couple songs come to my first show and they're like dude you guys are you're already sick to me right and so you're kind of starting I feel like with a little bit of a a uh like a handicap or something right or I don't I know if I'm using that term right but uh but I feel like with magic everyone's like first reaction yeah I feel like or the majority of the people's first reaction is magic magic is [ __ ] lame you know what I mean like right so you have to start with this like this Bol you're basically like pushing a boulder up you're starting underwater I feel like when you're when you're like I'm going to start a new thing I'm going to start doing magic guys people are like the [ __ ] I'd say the first inst uh thing that happens is people are like uh they're like what do you do I'm like I'm a magician and they're like oh man I wish my kids were here or my kids would love you or like you should come do my kids birthday party and I've never really I mean at the beginning you take whatever gig you can get but I've never really done kids shows and I'm like oh I don't do kids shows or whatever and they just can't fathom it their brains like what you like like as if I just said two separate things they're like but magic is for kids you're a hack right exactly and you're like no I'm not literally I said like Oh I'm a chef and they're like oh I'm not hungry and I'm like oh I don't make food yeah that's like what that's what they heard right like what that makes no sense yeah oh I no no no I don't I don't make I don't make food yeah I you're talking about so they look at me like I'm that crazy but you know then and even people will will uh they might even be a fan they might even seen stuff and they still sort of inherently assume I'll get DMS from people that are like I'm a big fan I've seen your TV show or like been following you for years um can you like my my kids turning nine you know how much would it cost to come out I'm like what part of anything you've ever see me do makes it seem like this would be okay like we're if I come do this kid show we're both going to jail I'm going to talk about dicks it's not going to be good exactly there's nothing nothing happened in here dude I imagine you're reading those messages you're like [ __ ] sick honey we got it there's somebody's booking me and you're reading it you're like dude I'm a huge fan I've been following you for years really got this event and then it's 9-year-old [ __ ] son of a [ __ ] yeah oh and the times I've agreed to do it I felt bad because there are really great kids entertainers out there like magicians that's her whole specialy and they're so good at it and I'm like you wasted your money on me I took your money and I did it and now I'm like I feel so bad for you you're like I don't do kids but I know a guy yeah I know a couple but yeah so that that's like the big thing and then sometimes yeah people think it's pretty lame that's why I'm like in the comedy magic I get to steal a lot of Comedy audiences because there's a lot of people I mean so many fans of Comedy out there and they inherently go like ah magic I don't know and I'm like well you haven't like if you like laughing and you like funny [ __ ] and do this in the right way you can steal them over and they go oh wow magic isn't as lame as I thought cuz Chris Angel and David Blaine and David Copperfield and those guys I mean they were all they all made magic so popular and they're really all doing it in their own unique way but like it's very like shurly or something like it's very weird serious well like the those guys I feel like are doing and I don't know [ __ ] about M you're going to have to educate me about magic on this pod that's why I'm here but uh I don't want to be a magician but I I want to learn about it but uh those those guys seem more like they're holding on to this like old school like cut the lady in half kind of like delivery method of magic right and then they like do their own flare and add new age you know techniques or whatever they're doing but it it all to me seems very come come one come all see the M see the magician you know what I mean like at those big crazy events whereas some of the stuff I've seen like you and and Chris do are like it's more like look at your phone or like it's like like the that stuff kind of gets involved and that's kind of cool you're making like your own thing and it's less I don't know like tacky or something some of that big magic stuff almost comes off kind of like I don't know I think there's just the big the big separation from me is there's magicians that try and make you believe that they're doing it Copperfield wants you to think he's flying around David Blaine wants you uh to question every possible thing he ever does you know Chris Angel really wants you to to to think that he has special powers like they and then there's other ones that like myself that I'm like this is a trick right it like it's just uh it's no more practice than learning an instrument right but we're gonna have a great time and I'm going to fool you and you're GNA and you're GNA you're GNA you're going to enjoy it like not like in a way that you leave and your life has changed like when I first started doing magic I remember I went to my mom's work one time and I like I did this a trick where we're all in her her break room and her friend had like a she like can you do a trick for me I'm like sure and I went over to her her fork there was on the table any went like that and their Fork just moves without me touching it right she burst into tears left the room and I was like oh I don't want that that's not the reaction I'm looking for right yeah so I after that I was like oh this sucks like that's not like it's cool that you can have that amount of effect on someone but I'm like it was just a silly trick I made her cry with my Powers yeah how old were you oh I mean I was 20 20 I didn't learn magic so I was like 1920 you were like what have I become what have I become Uncle Ben with great power comes great responsibility was 100% so how did you like you know find it how did you find that that's what you wanted to do cuz that's a kind of a curveball thing to devote yourself to yeah at a you know young age of like this is my art this is what I do honestly I mean it goes back to the Chris Angel David blae thing I was watching them on TV I was like 19 and I i' like Chris Angel a little bit it didn't really make me want to do magic necessarily but I was like it kind of got my eyes on Magic like w this is like first seasons of Mind Freak were amazing I've never watched that stuff really yeah I mean the right age at the right time it didn't age well if you watch it now you wouldn't it's corny yeah yeah but when I for me I was like 15 or something it was just so perfect and then when I was like 19 I remember seeing David Blaine he had a special and he was doing like card tricks like simple solid street magic card tricks like he invented street magic right so he's the first one out there just doing it and I remember just being like I should learn some card tricks cuz like he was doing them in a way that I'm like okay this is not the levitating Powers right this is like something you could just learn illusion yeah and I'm like this is like slight of hand so I bought a book on card tricks and I'm like I'm going to get learn card tricks and I'm going to pick up chicks at the bar that was my whole plan knew I knew that's what it was going to be yeah and it just do it did not work you're just trying to Houdini these ladies 100% I was like I'm not tall so I'm going to be doing magic tricks your card how [ __ ] hot is that that's what I thought turns out H yeah and then if you do if you do get a chick that's like into it you're like you're like oh lady you like guys that do magic lose lose what other kind of what other kind of Street trash are you banging exactly you're [ __ ] exactly like I pulled an ace of spades on you and and got your number like Jesus Christ no I just got yeah and then but I was very popular at University because of it right in college when I I knew all these tricks I learned a lot of I learned a lot of Barb bets a lot of magic tricks so every I was in the campus Pub and just lighting it up and it was so fun and you're from what part of Canada Vancouver Vancouver yeah okay so it was like yeah it was just a great time and then I didn't expect to do it for a career at all it was just like a hobby right some people play the guitar I was doing card tricks and stuff yeah that's what I'm trying to tap into cuz it's such a it's such a unique thing to like have be your thing like there's so many everyone in their mom like tries to be a musician at some point yes you know what I mean and you either stick with it or you like ah you know I don't have the dedication or it didn't give me like immediate gratification you know what I make like I didn't get famous overnight like when I put my guitar video on YouTube so you know a lot of people like bow out of music I feel like and it seems like card Tri I'm like how do you how do you get card tricks as your thing and Magic as your thing and then you like you have your pitfalls and you're like should I keep doing and then you're still sticking with the m and you're like successful at it to me that grind seems wild it seems like a different like a different ride completely than most any other body other person I know it was timing because of like where the internet was at the time like i' learned all this stuff and like all these card tricks and stuff and I was like I need the internet was like sort of popping off but like you could sort of now oh I could Google some magic tricks and you'd see some stuff but it wasn't like saturated at all and then I was like huh so I started uh doing like just right like small shows whatever and if I posted a clip it would do like crazy good really and I was like oh cuz there's just nowhere to see Magic and then like people like then I was like doing stand up at the time I started doing open mics and then I like one day I like brought my magic trick like just a simple trick on stage and it [ __ ] killed damn and I was like oh I and I immediately I'm like who I instantly am standing out in this open mic right just cuz like I was trying to be funny like everybody else and I was probably mid who cares but then I did this trick and it just put me up to the top oh he got Tricks yeah literally and I was like uhoh and it felt like a cheat code for a lot of things if you're bombing you're like uh pick a card totally man like 100% so yeah and then and then awes the time I uh I was like 25 I was so good at Magic and I was already booking like gigs on the side like corporate events and whatever and then I and then I filmed like I think I was probably 20 I don't know yeah because I was like I got into it when I was 20 then 25 I was like my boss offered me a promotion and I was like I'm going to quit this job just like I freaked me out that I was like if I take a promotion here going I hated this job I'm going to stay for the rest of my life so I didn't really expect it to work out but long story short is just like it just kept being the best choice it wasn't like I I I'm always amazed it's been 13 years since I've had another job like it makes no sense I don't know why but when I started the internet was just such a weird place one of the first Clips I put up got like 33 million views and that's like in 2013 or something 2014 and that 10 years ago getting 30 million views is makes no sense yeah it was like I mean it's crazy right now it' be crazy right now you honestly would have to do something so stupid I feel like to get 33 million views right now like the the way the view the views like back then maybe it was like oh my God what this guy's doing is really cool and he's doing it's really good quality little clip that he's got here and he's really really good at this and then nowadays it's like you know she said hakua on a thing that's that's like what gets the viral 100% it's crazy and like with magic the crazy thing with magic especially back then you couldn't watch it anywhere uh you could only watch David bla whenever he put us special watch some Chris Angel Mind Freak maybe you could like watch an old Copperfield special thing I don't know there's just nowhere to see it so you go on the internet and you try and find it and then you could find a lot of people on the street doing card tricks or to the camera because David Blaine made that style of magic very popular but you just couldn't go on YouTube Type in Magic and watch like an hourong special you couldn't do it you still can't [ __ ] do it right watch somebody like [ __ ] with a whole crowd of people just like You' watch stand up special you can't do that for magic they don't exist and even now like they're just starting to happen now you know so like I was like I hit it at such a right time everything I posted everything I did was just so new to people like I I I remember renting of the theater in Vancouver it's like 1100 seat theater it's the Vogue it's so sick I had no TV credits nothing uh and I sold it out just because I had stunt Magician on the [ __ ] Marquee and people were just like I've never where could you see magic nowhere and they flooded in crazy it blew my mind like now I couldn't do that now it's like like I have to [ __ ] promo so hard I have to use every credit I have you know I mean I could still do it but it wouldn't be it's not e back then it was easy because you just couldn't see it so anyways I just came in at the right time that's why for me staying with magic wasn't that hard I I obviously believe in my [ __ ] and then the timing was just so good so yeah I don't know that's kind of how it went down that's crazy yeah it blows my mind though still just crushing too yeah and I like you still you can you can it wasn't a thing that was like like a like something that was hot in 2013 or whatever and then burn out you know it's getting more popular every day and and like now I mean it's so you it's hard for people to imagine if they weren't looking back then 10 years ago didn't really matter but now if you open any Instagram Tik Tok anything you're just seeing magic tricks all the time they're flooding in like you could watch so many right like there's literally billions of views every month it's one of those like niches that's like really popular that like I don't look up I don't see that stuff in my feed but there but there's enough of it out there that people want there's enough people out there want to see it I guess I mean like if you typed in Magic you'd see Pages people right but uh but like 10 10 years ago if you typed in you'd see five people yeah right so I think for me it was just a timing thing but uh it's getting more popular every single year and uh and I I think that's really cool I think uh I think people are ready to laugh at it I think comedy Magic's going to have a real yeah uh a real moment you know I don't know if you know who Justin Wilman is I don't so he has a show on Netflix called Magic for humans and uh the magic prank show so he's like the only sort of new uh famous magician out there and Netflix has green lit him a special so it'll be the first comedy magic special should have been you I'm happy as Justin he's great but once he does this I think the floodgates are going to open and I think you're about to see a ton of Comedy magic see we're going to see West you're going to see west comedy magic that's what I'm thinking is going to happen that's going to be sick yeah I'm looking forward to it do uh so people don't hate magic right cuz cuz there's it's so po you're making it sound like it's so popular but I feel like such so many people that I know you're like hey dude like you know this and that about M like my friend does magic they're like yeah you know what I mean like it still kind of has like a like a like magic is gay stigma you know what I mean and I'm like why as popular as I've always been kind of like I've never had a bad or good feeling I'm like show me some M cool let's go you know what I mean as popular as I think it is uh I'm I'm well aware that uh on that scale of things that are actually popular it's very low you're pro magic you're biased yeah you're pro magic I'm but I'm well aware that every single day whenever I talk to someone I'm the first magician they've ever met you know you know what I mean a magician or like if I show someone a car trick I'm like have you ever seen a magic trick closeup 99% of the time no and every now and then they're like yeah yeah yeah my my uncle did one or like oh yeah we had a magician one time at my work thing but it's like so minuscule right and I'm like oh so it's not that popular right the amount of people that that that have seen live music seen live com [ __ ] live magic is a huge down so I feel like you know but they're offering a unique show a unique product I think so but yeah but some people don't know how to watch it some people hate it some people can't they can't stand not knowing so you get that guy in the group like you're you're great guy for watching magic you you know you just enjoy it right uh and Mason like you know he's a great guy for watching magic because he's so [Laughter] dumb shout out to high podcast shout out to face uh what the hell how was that behind my ear what in the hell it's like the trick hasn't even started yet he just found his hair you're like Mason pick a card and he was like whoa we love you Mason that's so funny no so it's it's it's it's depends on who you get have have you ever made somebody like Ser that leads me to my next question I wanted to ask I was like I'm going to ask usest this have you ever really pissed somebody off with a magic trick where they're like they're like angry at you or or anything like that yeah yeah uh filming our TV show I I was a magic consultant which is basically our version of a comedy writer on my buddy show a magic consultant is a crazy title it that that you have held that you have held you're it's on your resume I was a magic consultant they're like they're like we need you to make 172 or 273 magic tricks and not use any cards w and I'm like I'm okay did you say easy or were you sweating I said easy because I wanted the gig but then you were sweating and it was me and my buddy Travis at two magic and Salon just sitting in a [ __ ] dark room every day just trying to this is so this is blowing my mind CU this is like this is like a band like being you have a week to make this album in the studio you know what I mean like the same thing you're like just two guys doing magic writing magic tricks the the we hours of the night in the studio so yeah so like we found out early days that like if you're filming hidden camera stuff um you could really get away with some pretty cool magic but the problem is you get you get caught a lot and when you get caught setting up a magic trick the guy you're doing it to he doesn't know he's being filmed he doesn't know that there's a magic show happening right so like if I'm trying to uh steal your wallet for this trick we're going to do and you catch me you're now just very angry because I just look like a guy trying to steal your wallet right so I pissed people off that way plenty of times and be like who and like you like pointing at the camera like no no no there's a the guy there's a camera guy in the bush and they just like super aggressive right away which I get if someone's trying to you know so I've had those situations was that in Canada yeah oh dude that wouldn't fly in America dude no you get shot for you can't do that out here dude inst it's like stealing a Canadians wallet bullet cat [ __ ] still try to steal a Canadian's wallet what are you doing buddy what the heck and you're like oh I'm filming a show they're like oh you have a good day then truly man I don't know why I made him like [ __ ] Irish or something that sounds right yeah no that's that's other problem making a show in Canada is tricky like that because uh even when you do successfully pull it off the reactions are pretty mild like one time we uh we took a guy's credit card uh he was gonna he's in a we're Eric the host of the show was um behind the counter like as this cashier dude this guy comes to play with his credit card and we're like oh it's not working you know that's like not paying not paying he's like must be over the limit and he takes out scissors and he cuts up this guy's card and the whole thing was cut up his credit card in front of him take all the pieces and then restore it to a card and give it back to him right it's a sick trick yeah and we're like this will be hilarious watch like this guy freaking out right doesn't freak out so Canadian he's like oh man well thanks for getting rid of that for I got to talk to my bank you know like he just totally accepted the fact that like that's common practice and we're like we can't use this [ __ ] cashier we'll just cut your card up he's like oh oh all right well sh buddy can you be more mad at us yeah truly you know what I mean truly yeah yeah I'm like yeah I don't even know so that's why you moved to America to to piss people off to get people with low attention spans and low and low tempers and lots of refined carbohydrates in their system and low IQs and then and then you can just trick the [ __ ] out of these people and they're just you can mess with them all you want there's nobody in Canada going to react to a magic trick better than David Lucas no right so you know I gu like it's it's it's great and that's what I'm here for have you tricked David Lucas before Oh many times yeah ni yeah oh he loves it he's he's one of the best Spectators for magic so I I I like people B about it I like people that are down uh the best spectator for magic is someone who is super confident because they don't uh they don't care that they're not the center of attention necessarily and they don't care that they don't know how it works yeah but then you get these super like Alpha bro dudes who hate when the center of attention is not on them they don't like to look foolish in public right and they're like insecure about how they come across it's like that's why people like oh black people react to Magic really great yeah they're generally just very [ __ ] confident right and like so I'm sorry a super tall white dude jock that was like the [ __ ] uh you know captain of the football team yeah uh you're not this isn't your moment I just fooled you you can't laugh about it you're [ __ ] your inner self-esteem is so low exactly you're still you're still coasting off those high school coattails and like and they're grabbing their girl a little tighter as if she's going to fall for the [ __ ] magician like you didn't think that magician was hot did you Stephanie well I mean he kind of tricked you you know what I mean oh so funny he made you look like a fool I'm leaving with him oh dude imagine that'd be a crazy movie dude it's like magician just stealing the hose oh [ __ ] awesome Brent Moren used to have a good bit about that in his one in one of his specials about uh his ex-girlfriend left him for a magician that's pretty uh yeah that would be a low that's a low point for sure as a magician I could speak for that that's a low Point yeah um what what would be a low point for a m a magician to lose a girl to like who who oh mes mes and jugglers you juggler or MIM you're below us y I can't believe Bethany left me for that [ __ ] mime he doesn't even use words the third time she's just touching her ass like oh [ __ ] um how are the crowds kind of on that same note of like Austin versus or America versus Canada how are the crowds in Austin compared to Canada like uh how easy is it to sell Magic to these people I guess I think it's uh most of the places I go it's pretty chill to sell Magic like Austin's great because like there's such a strong comedy scene people are really used to going to shows and when I put on a show uh they turn up because they're like oh it's like they already inherently I kind think kind of assume it's going to be comedy magic which is good um a big entertainment culture here like like in general like oh what what are we doing tonight we going want to go to a comedy show a music show you know what I mean so like when you do a show here people know it's like adults only and they're going to go out to a show when I do a show in gr Forks North Dakota uh there's like pages of complaints on the ad that it's not for kids I got to bring my kids what am I do with my kids I gotta bring my kids like cuz people don't they're not used to going out right and if they go out they go out with the whole family and I get it you want to have familyfriendly ENT and I get it but like the audience once you get them there over like Grand Forks let's say they're awesome but they're just not used to doing that in Austin people are used to going out right so it's like I find that easier but once you get people in the seats it's great in Canada I think on in the theaters doing the shows in the theaters or the clubs in Canada versus the states it's the same approaching people on the street hidden camera for for magic or whatever different that's better in the states for sure um but yeah just because the reactions yeah just because the reaction everyone's a little bit more more uh I don't know what a word is but what is that about Canadians dude I don't know there like so chill and it's almost like to a NE to a negative sometimes of like hey have some feel be mad at me about this I'm trying to take your wallet I'm trying to cut your credit card up give me give me give me some something yeah it's I mean it's it's crazy you could like not everybody but like I I hate to generalize but yeah we can like uh I pretended to throw um uh This Woman's engagement ring into the water right and oh my God like it had to go that far to get like a decent reaction and she was just like what in the heck yeah yeah it's just she like oh my husband's going to be mad you're like like all right so I don't know it's uh thank God we got the insurance dude we did one trick okay this is back also uh when I was uh the magic consultant we did this one trick and I'll tell you how it works it's [ __ ] crazy so Eric's the host he's going to take this person's driver's license he's going to put it in this little magical wallet he's going to close it and hand it to them and when they open it again their uh driver's license will be gone and then when they look up it's going to be stuck to the bottom of a bridge 150 feet up right and they get these binoculars and they're like holy [ __ ] it's crazy uh and uh and literally the reaction was how about that and how the trick works is even more insane Eric Gets the card he does this six slight of hand and toss it to my buddy Travis and Travis is dressed as like a a PA sound guy right so he grabs it cuz we're not filming a hidden camera we're like clearly in a shoot right right Travis takes it he runs around the building and there's a bucket he throws the credit card in the bucket I'm on top of this building with a fishing rod reeling this bucket up and I go over to the edge of the thing I got this harness in I'm clipped in I have a thir a 23ft pole and and I stick the card in the end of it and I'm above these two Eric's distracting her down they're talking [ __ ] and I'm sticking this car to the bottom of the [ __ ] thing right dangling way out if she looked up you just see me out there like crazy like so but you would look like a lighttech or something even up and I was pretty scared oh really no I just mean you probably would still be able to fool him because you look like a a PA you look like like some kind of lighttech up there in a harness probably yeah actually how would he get the ID yeah yeah that's true that's a good point what does he have some kind of fishing pole in a [ __ ] bucket rigged up back there sometimes when people are like how does that trick work I'm like how do you think it works they're like I don't know I'm like I think you do yeah how do you think it could do you remember the game mouse trap yeah yeah exactly you know what I mean you guys are like bubble gum and duct taping [ __ ] magic tricks to try to somebody's ID stuck up there that's crazy and she was just like how about that yeah truly and you're yeah okay we tried I'm like can we just release the behind the scenes footage people are going to want to watch this way more anyways so it's pretty sick um so you do a show here in Austin at East Austin comedy club I did a few there and I moved it to rosos because I needed a bigger stage yeah so now it's at Rosco's Comedy Club it's called Wes's Magic hole you're trying to really push that this is for adults thing for sure W is magic cornhole what the hell dude yo pause whates his magic hole yeah yeah come come see my magic hole come in my magic hole get in it I don't know pause that's so funny that's the best name a magic show ever dude well I thought like if you say it fast enough after a few drinks it might sound like Wes is magical right so I thought maybe that'll maybe that'll be what it is a little double on maybe you know uh but no Wes's Magic hole is the best title I've ever come up with I love it and then yeah I got get four or five Comics to come out yeah so what do what do they do they do I get you have 10 minutes do whatever you want to do use your normal time but somewhere in there beginning middle end I don't care you have to do a magic trick could be a 10-second trick a minute trick whatever you want uh and and I'm like go on the internet find a trick learn it and try it okay and we've got some real dog [ __ ] on the stage which is [ __ ] hilarious and we've got some surprisingly amazing tricks which is awesome and hilarious oh yeah we've had really good ones Uncle laser did a good one Kim Kong did a good one Hans Kim did a good one can you tell us about any of those or do you want people to go are they on YouTube or something I'm going to post them all but like you have them all recorded yeah nice I I I well I didn't have the first few but I have the last two recorded so I'm going to start posting like episodes but like yeah like Uncle laser clearly been doing this trick at bars I think he only knows one but he's been doing it for 15 years looks like right so he was like Smooth you know and Mitch Burrows he has a sick car trick that really you know a few guys have known some really good car tricks interesting and then a bunch of people are just sort of throwing it together but even some people throwing it together so funny cuz comedians are looking at it from a way different perspective of magicians right right so just even handing a simple magic trick to a comedian and saying here this is how it works like try to think something yeah in 20 minutes they have a more unique routine than I've seen magicians do in 20 years a way to make it funny yeah and like they're like I don't know anything other than how to make [ __ ] funny they're basically going to tag it they're going to take they're going to tag your your magic trick yep and that's and it's so the show's been so fun I let the audience vote for the best one give that person 100 bucks and then uh I go and headline it uh but yeah rosos works better because the stage is bigger because e Austin the stage is smaller than his table so I can't do a lot of my tricks some of my tricks involve having two three four five people on stage or I want some room to do like [ __ ] backwards somersaults and straight jacket escapes and shoot [ __ ] blow you can do that stuff oh yeah you do backward somersaults no buddy I'm like straight Jack dude I'm a ninja dude God damn I stret I stretch for 40 minutes a day I got to come see dude bendy I got to come see one one of the I've seen you do like a set where were you last night Secret Show oh really [ __ ] I don't know I'm sorry I wasn't I was at home I was trying to recoup my I was trying to recoup my Creative Juice dude sometimes I just have to like play a video game and not speak to anyone and just like re re recharge yeah gigging or whatever or if if not we'll just like buzz off hop on a plane like the every day we went to Utah just to hike for 3 Days in Zion that's [ __ ] awes you know like just getting out there and like to the point where like sometimes I'm like do I even want to be famous this is better right you know and then that lasts for two days and I go I need to get [ __ ] we need to go back to a exactly I bet you're walking that third day you're walking on the trail and you see some like hikers wearing those sandals with the toe loop on them you're like I could trick the [ __ ] out of is that how you look at people dude you like like instead of like I could beat that dude's ass you know like a guy that works out and does Jiu-Jitsu all the time he's like I could totally whoop that dude's ass you see people and you're like I could trick the [ __ ] out of those people dude a lot of times I'm like I'm like oh dude he's not even watching his phone I can take that phone right now like where's your phone sick trick with that phone right now behind your ear so fun I'll switch it for my phone he won't even know what's going on then I'll accuse him of stealing my phone [ __ ] that'll be great then I'll vanish the phone give him his phone I just like all these ideas I'm just looking at your phone right now like anything I see that lighter I'm like oh [ __ ] I do something lighter like always your wife goes Wes yeah we're not doing magic we're on vacation sometimes like now we're good when I when we were first dating like she was the one who taught me how to stop doing magic you were running tricks on her all the time not on her anyone we'd meet just non-stop they'd be like who you're a magician of the G let me show you a trick there she's like Jesus Christ it just she's like do a trick or two then stop yeah and I would just go all night get hammered drunk just and she's like you know just please and I I'm so happy she like really taught me how to like pull it back yeah so now it's like I think I got it kind of in a Sweet Spot yeah I like Wes but he just once he gets out going on his magic [ __ ] he just [ __ ] won't stop truly and he's taking your phone and making it disappear it's so annoying to have a friend with magical superpowers just so irritating 100% yeah did you ever did you ever get in a fight about it like you ever get back from the bar and it's like you're like what's wrong baby she's like you just you always do this magic [ __ ] and it's just I just want to go out one night and you're not trying to you know make everybody's underwear disappear yeah I mean not quite like that but like you know there's like you know wedding reception that I just went getting too drunk doing too much magic and then she'd be like she would just drag me out she'd be like just stop I don't know why that's so funny to me you getting too drunk and just you blacking out what did I do last night it oh my gosh like it was you [ __ ] made somebody's [ __ ] dis you made someone's wallet disappear and you couldn't find it yeah it literally it was never really an argument cuz she I I inherently would well once I was sober know she was right in the moment I'd be like what I they were loving it bab we got C pH just doing a couple tricks doing a couple tricks babe yeah exactly but yeah but yeah you do [ __ ] things up because like you know you be like oh like give me that $ Five Doll bill you got there and then you're like you like you know rip it up and do a cool trick with it or whatever uh and I don't it's no spoiler to to know that um the that that $5 bill is absolutely [ __ ] now right you know so you got to have another one yeah exactly and so you're just constantly kind of ruin people's day but it's a sacrifice that's fine cuz you're like cool trick like I'll pay five bucks out of my own pocket to give to ripped this guy's five bucks up like one time I borrowed this chick's ring vanished it whatever and then I pulled out a condom and it's like inside the condom rapper sick trick but now her ring is covered in [ __ ] blop right so I've just ruined her night cuz she's trying to get it off I watched her for the next half an hour you know and I'm like ah it's kind of so when I get drunk It's that kind of [ __ ] you know so my wife's just like just stop [ __ ] magic [ __ ] magic you get drunk and start doing [ __ ] magic dude 100% that's so funny [ __ ] that's a new series dude you got to start doing that just like even if it's just a skit dude like [ __ ] magic oh my God so funny just rooting like yeah that was cool but now I have [ __ ] strawberry Lube all over my yeah exactly oh my God 100% that's awesome so yeah a lot of that but you finally reeled it in dude I think so I love this girl enough that I think I'm going to stop doing magic tricks all the time to the point now where sometimes she's like did you bring any tricks oh no and I'm like no I didn't she like what the hell we're going to meet these new got for magicians cuz we all got to we all need our wallet phone keys right just for life and you only got so many [ __ ] Pockets so you're like oh like a magician's daily carry yeah yeah what's your everyday carry and and you're like and you're like well I because I got to put this it it goes next to my phone I add it to this and and it's just so crazy and you're like I got an extra Pocket sewn in here so I can put [ __ ] in there dude being Canadian is amazing cuz it's [ __ ] cold it's jacket season all the time so I when it's jacket season you'll see me out in Austin [ __ ] 40° everyone's hands out I'm just like cl cl cl and they're like what the [ __ ] I'm like and here's the deck cards and then here's another why do you have two decks of cards I'm like don't ask magic secrets yeah you know how they go show me your waist you know you have a dildo right there I'm like swe there's two country flags there's a dead Dove like just weird like I'm like oh these are fake thumbs like and they're like what this really happen 100% and they're like what the hell they know you now though you're just like they're like yeah now they're like they hold the wand a little further away and just go get inside it's like this isn't the courthouse we don't have those buckets that you can put [ __ ] in you know what I mean like that they put through the metal detector exactly what am I going to do get Joe Rogan with a a sponge nose a little clown nose little you want to smell this flower exactly who are you protecting yeah uh yeah magician is somewhere between a clown and7 that's that's what it is dude [ __ ] love that dude yeah [ __ ] long that one dude that's amazing it's awesome yeah I know I I uh yeah it being a magician is a lot of just putting things in your pockets in in bathroom stalls and garage car parking garages and stuff this is going to be [ __ ] sick you're just like this is going I'm going to [ __ ] nail this 100% I have a a bit in my show where like I have I haven't done it that much recently but I used to it all the time where I'd get someone in the audience to name any kind country whatever country they say um I pull a flag out of my my fly and sometimes it hits but most the time it doesn't uh because it's just like I only have one or two flags in there you know and I'm just hoping uh please save France yeah and when they when they don't when they don't and I make a joke of it because of the way my show is set up no one cares that it was just a funny gag well it's interesting because like you know what we were talking about earlier like if you if you were bombing at comedy at first when you first started and then you could always go fall back to a magic tricka it kind of works the other around where if a trick bombs now it's com down now it's just silly now I just [ __ ] up and let's make it funny yeah right whereas like some magician right if you're only magic brain and your trick bombs you're like you know you're like sweat sweating a lot of magicians have what's called multiple outs if the trick [ __ ] up here they have like other solutions to make it still a magic trick but me I just divert right to Comedy but the the the the flag trick started because I just started wearing Flags when I'd go out with friends right it wasn't a stage bit it was just I'd always stuff two flags in my pants and I'd head out i' I'd do it every day and then every couple months someone would be like oh I think we might go to Brazil next year and then I'd be like hang on and I'd stand up and i' pull the Brazilian flag out of my and it looks like [ __ ] a miracle right how does he have a brought this Brazilian flag in his pants just I wore it every day for two and a half months and then you finally said Brazil and that's being a magician right there for sure is so [ __ ] funny to me dude that is crazy I love it do you think it's better to be stoned before we do a magic trick should I be stoned before you do a magic trick yeah I think it's going to hurt you either way all right cool I'm going to go for it dude I'm having a lot of fun so glad you're here I am loving this cheers buddy pints going we got the pints going dude I want to go to Canada uh cuz I do video stuff I would love to come film a show or something if you ever needed help amazing we could film a show in Canada cuz we went to Canada for the first time last year on a big metal tour and a big band took us to Canada and it was like oh [ __ ] the crowd were the most insane I've ever seen in my life we went all all the way we went to everywhere except for where you're or no no you're from Vancouver so we went basically the like three quarters of the whole country uh from like Vancouver to uh all the way over and down to Winnipeg oh wow and then we popped out at South uh North Dakota so we didn't go to Toronto that's only that that Eastern it's yeah the east coast is the part I haven't been to yet but we drove all the way through the scary it was scary we almost died I crashed the van yeah yeah I crashed the van on the way from I think from Saskatoon to Winnipeg yeah that's that that little stretcher Road and uh did you fall asleep there's nothing there no dude and I it was in the middle of the day and I was going like I don't know it was like I think 70 whatever it is I don't [ __ ] remember what you guys use over there K 70 kg I was going I was going uh kilowatts I was going going like 20 mph under the speed limit oh wow okay and literally dude and this is the crazy thing so uh I was going super super slow and then it just we lost it and I just see the trailer goes this way we hit like a it was windy and the snow was blowing all over the street and we hit like a patch of ice and I was driving as safe as anyone possibly could cuz I'm not I wasn't trying to crash the van in the snow I was driving so slow in the in the slow lane and we I see the trailer in the re view just go the trailer just goes and it like pulls us and we start we do a full 360 into oncoming traffic luckily there was nobody on the street there was nobody on the highway and then we just kind of gently just went right into some snow and so it was like the safest most chill crash and I just remember I was I was like boys it's happening right now boys like it was like that slow motion I like boys it's happening it's happening boys brace yourselves boys and we're just like [ __ ] [ __ ] and the van like Lu IL it like it turned on but we couldn't do so we could have some heat in there but uh luckily nothing was really too [ __ ] the cops came and pic picked us up took us to this like Lodge that had a Pizza Hut and a and uh uh water slides in it I was like this is actually pretty lit you know what I mean we survived holy [ __ ] and uh and and then we had some guy with like a uh one of those you know cranky [ __ ] hook things on the back of his car Wich yeah the winch grappling hooks uh and so he pulled us out you know what I meann and and then we realized that the trailer tire was [ __ ] that was the only thing I was [ __ ] so we had a spare so we we fixed the trailer tire and we drove for the rest of the tour we drove to Winnipeg drove to North uh Dakota and then we got all the way almost back to Portland where the the band is from we got back to we got to Montana and we're like stay in the hotel we wake up and look at the the tire and the tire is just black I was like what the new tire we're like this can't be right the axle was like [ __ ] snch a miracle we didn't break down from Winnipeg to Montana the axle was [ __ ] from the from the from the impact so we had to leave our trailer in [ __ ] Montana and then D rent a U-Haul drive to Portland to finish the tour and then a couple days later the guys drove the U-Haul back to Montana to pick up the trailer when it got they're never having you back on this [ __ ] tour you're no it's cool actually I the joke is that I did it on purpose so I never have to drive again again that makes sense you know I mean like guys like you know what happened last time I drove no I'm just kidding it's my van so okay I crashed it cuz I wanted to that's right I wanted to see what it felt like I just felt a little sad yeah I wanted I wanted the [ __ ] I wanted the bragging rights dude that we survived and crash dude just trying to get us just trying to get us a press you know how much merch we sold the next night it's all marketing that would be crazy we sold the broken axle all right that would be crazy no I think uh Music's Got to bring him the most [ __ ] it sucks I think you have to tour with so much stuff being a magician second worst being a comedian is easy you just show up grab the microphone doing comedy is [ __ ] awesome dude yeah it's awesome but it's like it's crazy I feel like the less [ __ ] you have to bring to a show what a relief man yeah I travel with like a 42b case that's about as light as I can get a magic show down to nice and you've tried oh dude I've tried I used to I used to have an 85 lb act now I got a 4 when you get when you get McKinnon level big in Magic you're going to have to release the magician backpack or like the jacket oh my god dude if you can release a custom [ __ ] magician jacket from like oh who would you carart if you partnered with carart to make the [ __ ] magic jacket dude no every magicians wearing [ __ ] suits and stuff man I no but it would have to look super chill and like a normal casual no one's going to buy it it' be just for me just dude there's guys that would buy it just if you were like it's the it's like four magicians but it's just got a lot of nifty pockets and [ __ ] you know what I mean like camera people would buy that [ __ ] dude it's so funny uh yeah like one time uh doing a TV thing and and they're like they're like I'm like when am I going to go on and I'm like I need to know like within a pretty small margin like why I'm like cuz I'm going to start sweating like five minutes in and they're like no it's not that bad out there I'm like listen I have so much duct tape I have two signs taped in my back I have three layers of t-shirt that you don't even realize like I have all these other things cuz you're talking to TV production people right I'm like I look it took me years to look this normal standing front of you but I promise you there's so much nothing here is breathing I can't even bend over you know and so you're always trying to remind people of like so yeah maybe maybe do you think Tony Stark had prototypes before they all looked as [ __ ] Sleek as a Iron Man suit you know what I mean like just I'm gonna be standing under a fan you put me on I'm just saying I'm literally dying already like put an air conditioner in there dude just a little that'd be crazy just a little actually I need that that bef take like a an engine from like a shitty little vacuum and put it in the bottom of my blowers Favorite Things is these old school uh Dove act magicians right they'll be like you know they got like 10 doves you know all those doves are on their person at some point so alive just hanging out just alive just chilling how do they just chill I know and they're out there in like what looks to be like a tight fitting tuxedo there's nine [ __ ] dubs like that's am still blow your mind like you have no idea how I know exactly how it works now you know exactly how it works yeah and I don't know who I feel for the do or the dude having to wear all these doves how are they not [ __ ] on the inside of that they're [ __ ] they're fully sh way reallying bird [ __ ] the end of the show 100% 100% like the pigeon man from Hey Arnold you remember yeah and like you go up and hug one of them you kill two doves no way for sure don't hug a Never Hug a magician that does doves you're going to kill some doves is that true 100% oh my God they're all they're everywhere so do they have backups cuz they know a couple are going to go going to go probably so if you think they have nine they got 12 yeah maybe I don't know never got into it cuz people forget about the non-sexy part of that it's like go to their apartment they have 70 doves bird [ __ ] feathers everywhere terrible it's fur's Place Wes's Act is pretty good but I don't want to go over to his house again truly he's a dove guy oh my God I never I I had a goldfish in my ACT once for like a year that was about it that's about were you swallowing it no I would put this he was in a bowl and then I'd put him into this uh put him into this how the Oh it started there's two cardboard boxes on this table and I'd make the audience pick one and whichever one they picked I would hit it with a baseball bat and uh then in the other one I'd reach in i' pull this bowl with fishing inside and then I put the fish bowl and the fish back in the cardboard box and then I hit that one with the baseball bat as well and then uh it looked like you were hitting the one with the fish in it and then they both just both the boxes were empty oh it was sick it was s it was one of my one of my you can't visualize it I know it's one of my best tricks too really but I stopped doing it because it's a pain in the ass yeah just pain in the ass to have a bowl a fish bowl of water and and a live fish the bigger you get too you'll be you'll get some you the Goldfish you know what I mean oh my God he's hurting the Goldfish I'm going to fly around the country with a [ __ ] fish like come on you got to go to petmart every day yeah and then people are like wait you kill a fish every time it's like yeah I eat it okay I just eat it how about that that you like sushi yeah exactly so I tried with a fake fish once that was worse than anything oh God people think uh that they're defensive over you killing a fish every show than you do a fake fish and they're like how dare you try and think we're that dumb you're like okay I'll just go back to killing fish next time we're going to put the stage further back this is [ __ ] I should be able to use a fake fish it's a double standard they're moving the goalpost dude 100% um what's the biggest pop you ever got like in a not in a theater setting but like with the homies or like at a bar or something or like where people are are crowded around you in recent memory maybe like the biggest like pop where you had a little crow crowd cuz I've seen I've seen uh comedians at the bar or comedian magicians at the bar that are like it starts off with like one guy they get one guy that's like all right show me a trick you know it's always that jock guy you know show me a trick I bet you can't you can't fool me you know what I mean and then and then his buddies were like yeah bet you can't and then he gets them like with one like real quick one or something he's like who wait a minute you know and then it's like a crowd of people kind of grows at the bar and then it's like I've seen magicians like oh yeah like kind of take over a bar because they have people looking at what they're doing the biggest pops I've gotten and and we kind of do it for each other is like if I go out with Chris or whatever oh we're both magicians but uh whenever someone whoever starts doing magic first I generally pretend like they're the only magician in the room so if Chris starts doing magic first no one needs to know I'm a magician so now we're about to some crazy [ __ ] cuz no one knows that I can you're it's like shake and bake from [ __ ] literally shake and bake C so like I know exactly what de Chris has I have the same one so like I I know he's going to [ __ ] Force you know them to pick the 10 the 10 of Hearts yeah so I'll take a ten of hearts and I I can go behind the audience I can put the T of Hearts wherever the [ __ ] I want oh [ __ ] right and he can just vanish one over here and it can appear so we can create Miracles you could never do alone right cuz no one knows your tag team you have to literally that's so sick it's I would like do you guys have like a thing where they're like oh my God Chris it's like it's the magician guy from YouTube right and they go oh shows a trick and he looks over at you and he goes we got him you know what I mean it's like no it's Unwritten un Wes come in Wes uh we're gonna we're going to do like he just gives you this 100% yeah dude nice it's just a wavelength thing oh it's the best man you look you guys lock eyes and he's like grab that that Queen of Hearts dude don't even have to look at them I just know that's amazing yeah that that kind of shit's where you get the best ones and then other times you'll get ones that are just like the Brazil flag right like people are like that [ __ ] it's unbelievable the investment the long-term investment is call the Brazil flag yeah exactly you have any more of those in your memory uh God I feel like you've done so many tricks now yeah I mean I mean I've had I've had ones where like for a long time I would just like pick a card throw it on the table tell someone to name a card and like have them look at it and always always they turn it over it's not the right card it's not the right one and then you just like oh wouldn't that have been funny in there would that been great and it was a little and you move you comedy magic yeah but every now and then the guy would be like no [ __ ] way no [ __ ] way you know and then he'll and they and the more they hype it up the more you're like and then they turn it over and if it matches bro they don't have to know that you did that for the last three months they have no idea they don't need to know that I won't tell them I'm not going to go to podcast and tell them yeah it's illusion baby we're in the business of Illusion Baby M yeah so let's do one what is this what do you got for me kill Tony cards kill Tony cards yes sir they had those on sale now these are actually he collabed with Chris Ramsey right so this is Chris Ramsey's first do shop and they do kill Tony cards um yeah so been using him because uh in Austin that's a cool thing to do so um let's see here I've been I used this deck last night and I don't know if I have all the [ __ ] cards it doesn't matter okay I'm going to get get you to pick a card as you do what if I don't what if I don't pick a card dude what what doesn't go very far gra you want remember it all right okay [ __ ] now I don't know how to do this with also in the mic so uh wait did we see it did we see it somewhere yeah okay your card is a black card right yeah nice okay is it is it uh is it a club yes you remember did I get it yeah [ __ ] okay good godamn had to warm up a little bit you got you gotta you just got to warm up so okay dude even if that even if that wasn't my card which it 100% was it's still pretty good look pretty sick dude you're [ __ ] you just ninja starred a card somehow it was awesome yeah that's how I can engage my drunkness if I can catch it I'm good nice [ __ ] then we need to have another beer I need to actually catch up with you yeah oh yeah you know you're slow playing it all right try one uh this is a like a classic that uh that David Blaine used to do all the time and this was one of the ones that kind of got me into magic where no matter where you put the card it always comes to the top right so I'll stand up and show you this one I can't do the mic that's okay uh but you can put a bend in it yeah and then you can see in the camera oh yeah right so you squish it down uhuh and then blae would always do a thing where he would snap and it would pop up to the top oh pretty sweet right classic yeah so like what that's like kind of the [ __ ] that I really like uh when I first started doing magic but because card magic is like when you ask about what people take when they leave the house M it's like cards are definitely one of your favorite things to take because of uh how many different tricks you can do right and it's a small when it comes to your your payload yeah when it comes to your load out it's that's just one little skinny thing it's about the size of a cell phone exactly yeah uh so here touch the back of another one we're going to try something else here just reou touch the back of one yeah it doesn't matter which one you touch okay got it uh take it out but don't look at it yet I'm going to see if I can make this work [ __ ] okay if can if we tilted the mic up with I'm not really sure if um does it go up yeah uh Well I this should work okay all right so we got a card here we got uh the two of diamonds now this is one of my favorite things can you see the two diamonds here okay uh hold it up to like this one or something you got that it's fine two of diamonds okay now one of the cool things you can do take a two of diamonds and if you get it in your hand you can spin it right and then it will change to a different card right three of them whoa now people say what do you what do you what do you do to change it back and sometimes it happens to me where I'll pick the wrong card accidentally right like we're looking for the two of diamonds I got the three diamonds I did that one on purpose but sometimes it'll accidentally happen where you pull the wrong card right that's where I have uh I got this is little little little security wallet and all you do is you take the card and stick your finger in there it's a little fun see see it feel the little magic in there okay watch this it's fun you take it you stick that in there right like that shake it up you got to say the magic words I [ __ ] up so bad you're going to embarrass me in front of Taylor I don't want to be embarrassed right this little incantation and then when you open it back up right so this is like a sort of like an insurance policy as a magician if you [ __ ] up no I just watched you fold the three of diamonds dude know right [ __ ] so that kind of stuff is uh if I hung out with you long enough would I be able to see the trick if you hang out with a with a magician long enough or can you you know what I mean if I was at the bar with you every night while you're running these tricks probably okay I think yeah we're going to hang out you can definitely you can definitely figure out some for sure yeah it's a one-sided relationship you have with all your friends dude where you can trick them whenever you want no cuz most my friends are magicians oh that's true that's true what else you got you got another one with the cards I'm I'm I love this [ __ ] dude we could do it we can do I also want to know how long if I started tomorrow like you know like going to card gym I just to me I don't even need to learn magic tricks I just want to learn how to do the cool [ __ ] with the cards and like shoot them into your other hand and like flip them all out like yeah some of it you could learn pretty quick like like how long is would it take if I started today just really working the cards you'd be very surprised how good you'd be in a month really an hour a day yeah i' would say it's literally the exact same as learning the guitar okay scales yeah yeah so like if you really go hard in a month you're like oh I can kind of half ass cord my way through this song I like this simple ass you know here we go I'm playing wonder wall a little bit you know uh it it's not that bad and then the learning curve is like like anything it's like it seems impossible and all a sudden you're like oh [ __ ] yeah but you could learn like there's tricks that are like self-working tricks you don't need to practice that much that I I'll teach you one I'll teach you a trick right now take a card any card doesn't matter now you get them to remember it and you put it back right there and then and then you can let them cut it if you want but just for the sake of time I'll just do it over here but you can let them like cut it on the [ __ ] table a bunch of times right and then you just take the cards back and you go through it was it the card we already had earlier wasn't it yeah that was why it was so weird was that just one of those was that was that just one of those crazy things one of those crazy things that's crazy cuz that's the same when I picked it I don't know if you saw my face I was like no way yeah I was kind like why is he looking it like that I I should have clocked that I was like no way yeah that's all right my bad all right Let's do let's do that kind of actual bad is that the same card again I [ __ ] hate this dude God damn it so you can learn that one easy my God take a different one seriously take no I don't want going to be the fours it won't be won't be it won't be okay you got it yeah okay all right well you give these Shuffle remember it okay you're going to put it here I'm actually going to teach you this one okay so they cut it this is the trick I wanted to show you earlier they cut it a whole bunch of times you can do it on the table it doesn't matter matter MH and then you go through and you got to find the card and you already knew which one I had no I didn't know I I literally didn't know but I know now it's a two yeah but not the diamonds CU that one's there yeah it's darker than that two of spad clubs clubs sexy magic right but you can learn this one right now no slight of hand required it's just acting like you have the wrong card always yeah for sure but how how the trick starts as you do this I'll teach everyone but it's still weird that you knew which one to pick out when you looked at the card that's why I'll show you how to do that right now okay so the cards are shuffled right yeah and I quickly look at the bottom one so right now I'm thinking about the Four Diamonds okay okay this is called a key card I think about the four diamonds so when I get you to take a card you pick any card you want I'm just thinking about the four diamonds and then when I say here put it back you put it there the Four Diamonds is going to go right on top of it oh so when we cut this stuff nothing bad is going to happen right I'm going to find you're going to look for the card Di and then it's the one next to it smart and then after that it's just all acting so like tricks like that you can learn instantly right you wouldn't be smooth with it right away because you're going to forget uh to look and what to do and like you know you're have to remember the procedure but once you memorize the procedure you can do tricks like that so easily that's wild yeah and then all the other [ __ ] uh like all the other learning how to like cut the cards and stuff that again is just like a month of practice on a couple things and then you're all set so I feel like it'd be good like add [ __ ] for me like if I just am cutting a deck with one hand or yeah I think that's what happens like a lot of people I think that's why they learn it sort of like a fidget yeah thing I don't I I remember I learned how to shuffle camping one time and I was like I'm the coolest [ __ ] guy ever you know what I mean when you learn how to do it like Mom does it you know what I mean you learn how to do it like an adult does it when you're a kid you're like whoa cuz I've been shuffling like this forever yeah yeah yeah no ex exactly crazy skills it's uh yeah it's just one of those things the more you obsess over the better you get quicker right like but uh it's not as hard it's harder than some people think and at the same time not as hard as people think it's one of those again I always a created to learning an instrument some people have been trying to play learn how to play guitar for 10 years and never got anywhere other people want to learn how to play guitar and in six months you're like holy [ __ ] this guy's so good yeah it's like how much you want to put into something 100% right you get what you you get what you put in same as comedy it's so funny asking people how long you you doing comedy like that's such a [ __ ] up question because like someone be like I've been doing it for six years but like what you get on stage once a month right yeah then 6 years is less than somebody who's going hard for 3 months you know so every time people ask how long you've been doing comedy I always think that's such a wild question because I'm like it has no context like how often do you like how many times have you been on stage and they're like oh a thousand times like dope right like forget about your years like how many times you've been up it's sort of stage hours yeah exactly so I always get that very Sim which was interesting for me doing it because do notice a lot of people are like hitting you know as many open mics as they can every night of the week and it's like they've been doing that for like years they say yeah you're like yeah you know what I mean and then you're like why yeah doesn't that right like so so to me it's almost like it's not necessarily the gym for some people right because it's like you go to the gym enough most most chances most cases you're going to be looking like went to the gym a lot right right but with with the comedy thing it's like these guys are going out a lot and they're not looking any better you know what I mean yeah and I don't want to talk I I can't I'm a all the names name the names I don't even know some of the name because there's so many people in this town it's just some new person you haven't seen and you're like you know or like some of the people that go on kill Tony and they're like I've been doing it for 10 years and you're like whoa yeah but that's an also a different they probably have their [ __ ] that they do I don't know why people are going up there doing new jokes you going up on kill Tony doing new jokes I mean I I never I'm like you're insane [ __ ] psychopath that a system material you have like why would you but uh but yeah to me I feel better after I take like a like a little bit of time away from it sometimes sometimes I'll go I'll be going hard and get deep in the hang and I'm going out every night you know what I mean and then I'm like I don't and then I then I'll do a couple sets and not feel good all of a sudden and it's like oh I suck at this all a sudden what's going on cuz I was good a couple days ago I felt better and now I feel now I don't feel as good Wonder CU I've been going harder I don't know I'm trying to figure it out I know that like uh I heard Greg Fitz Simmons say on a podcast the other day that he has never been addicted to it the way that some people get and that he will take a couple weeks off at a time yeah and feel even more excited to go back out like I'm kind of in the middle of that where I haven't gone out in like a week or two oh wow okay and I'm like I'm going to I'm getting excited to go back out right you know and if I go out every night and I'm just eating [ __ ] at Maggie Mays over and over again wherever the crowd I I love Maggie Mays but wherever the crowds are like kind of Canim be 50/50 you know what I mean you hit that negative 50 a couple times and you're just like dude why am I doing this that's a hard thing too when you when you're hitting spots like that and you're trying to figure out like uh it's really hard to tell in small audiences if it's you your joke or the crowd I'm yeah exactly cuz like I mean you know you shouldn't blame the crowd whatever yeah some there's 11 people in a room that seats 150 and they're all talking and they're all talking drink half of them are Comics like it's like you can't really get a good gauge I I I often think that uh sometimes people trying to do all those spots they heard that it's a good thing right they heard from famous Comics that they love do as many spots as you can often as you can uh and then like I think they forgot about quality reps you know and it doesn't really have the same like even in the gym you go in the gym and just [ __ ] and throw things around or whatever or you can have a [ __ ] musle gr yeah and actually do it right I don't know or or on that same on that same analogy it's like uh the difference between what's up okay cool yeah we can wrap up it's fine we've talked about a lot we'll have to have you back whatever you want but uh but yeah we uh it's like when you go to the gym and like you can either lift heavy and do like two or three or you can like lift a little lighter and do like sets of 12 right or whatever and it's like I feel like it's something like you don't have to be lifting heavy all the time that's what those going into those shows with with with 10 people and half of them are Comics the other half are hammered and talking yeah like that's lifting heavy that's PRS you're trying to put up PRS and on those days I'm like you better be doing new [ __ ] just to get the words right you know don't don't do good stuff there no point in trying to kill there that is the weird thing the harder you try the harder you try to kill with the with the weak crowds yeah the work it's I don't know what what an analogy would be for it but it's I don't know it's like trying to you're it works negatively it works against you yeah you know what I mean cuz you're it's like it's almost like they're like oh this guy's really trying to do material right now yeah you know you're like so anyway yeah and they're like oh God and I'm still at that point where like if anybody [ __ ] with me I'm like I'm out of here you know what I mean like I'm like I can't I'm like I try to like go back into material it's just like God I got like this in this one time I had a like recently I think I talked about this on here before I had a self-deprecating Heckler which I was like you know I was trying like so I'm in in a relationship for a long time my first [ __ ] joke I'm trying to get started and she goes I can't get my boyfriend to leave me whoa and I'm like what you know what I mean like and I should have just like relaxed but it was like my first it was also my my fiance was in the crowd it's my first time ever in front of yeah my first time ever doing a you know a thing in front of her I actually survived I did okay it was fine and people went up after me and did worse and she was like okay cool you you know totally suck you know what I mean but but and I was like uh she goes how do I get him to leave me and I'm just [ __ ] at this point I'm like I'm trying to get into my first joke here I'm trying to like get into bed right now with the crowd and you're just [ __ ] all over me and like I'm not good enough to handle like a Heckler thing and uh and I go I don't know uh get fat you know and she goes and she goes already there already got that oh my God and then he's like yeah that box is checked these guys are just killing these guys are just murdering you know what I mean and I'm just like yeah you know yeah you are fat oh my God I don't remember what I said but I was just like anyway I'm trying to [ __ ] do my thing here you know what I mean and my and my girlfriend or my fiance was like you should have told her to just keep being herself and I was like God damn you're a kidding you know I like have you ever written for anyone before like no I'm just now I know what I'll you know it's one of those things you go home and you're like oh why if I could have this is what I would have said this what I should have said both bugged me all [ __ ] night I had yeah so many of those I've done a lot of cruise ship gigs where where they expect a magician magician and I'm not I'm just me and then the heckling starts the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire music music comes on pretty much right out of the gate so they're like the comedian was yesterday just do the tricks you're like oh God here we go I'm just trying to get started light something on fire
